The artist duo nagl∼wintersberger (Andrea Nagl & Markus Wintersberger) creates an installative intervention for the art event “Mailüfterl”—a subtle yet poetic engagement with the natural surroundings of an old apricot orchard in Krems on the Danube. Using site-specific materials, they stage a tension between organic beauty, decay, and artistic transformation.

At the heart of the installation stands a cluster of trees centered around an ancient apricot, serving as a living stage for a multi-layered narrative. Here, latex skins bearing precise imprints of stone textures meet sculptural PU foam objects, their aleatory forms whispering tales of growth and transience. These abstract shapes, enhanced with UV-reactive pigments, unfold an ethereal, fluorescent aesthetic under targeted blacklight—revealed by visitors’ handheld UV lamps.

The immersive experience is deepened by performative and contemplative prompts (“walk backwards through the earth”—a line from Andrea Nagl’s poetry; with Richard Long as a key artistic reference) and  graphic works that treat soil as a drawing medium – where fine loess structures condense the ephemeral into stony traces.

nagl∼wintersberger’s artistic statement deliberately oscillates between contrasting poles: life and decomposition, construction and deconstruction, sensual presence and metaphysical absence. By aesthetically engaging with decay, impermanence, and natural dissolution, they open spaces for reflection on the continuous transformation and fragile beauty of existence.

In this dialogue between intervention and integration, the work invites a tender meditation on humanity’s place within nature’s cycles—and offers a sensory journey through space, form, and time.
